I thoroughly enjoy imperfection in photography, and reflection is one of the most beautiful imperfections for me.
To set up this shot took quite a few steps. The first was to arrange the still-life. The second was to place a sheet of glass in front of the lens, angled in such a way so as to not reflect the camera back at itself, but rather the area behind and off to the side of the camera. The third step was to build a set of sorts to provide pleasant reflections and colours.
I then set up the lights on my still life and also on the set behind the camera and, after more than an hour of work, finally had an overall image that I liked, so I took the shot, and here it is.
The images below were taken for this week’s Watermark theme on 75, and were from very early in the process before I had built the set behind the camera. I thought I’d put them in here for interest.
