The moon above Pretoria, 20:22, Wednesday 19 January 2011. I had just finished shooting a 90 minute, 90 frame time lapse video of the moonrise as part of an international video project to photograph the moon every minute of the day, all around the globe, for 24 hours. I decided to centre my sight on the moon and get a perfect exposure.
To get the perfect shot I enabled my camera’s mirror lock-up, as well as the ten second timer, so as to cut out camera shake.
I’m very, very impressed with the sharpness of the Canon 24-105mm F4 lens I used. This is by no means a very long lens, and generally quite unsuitable for shooting such a small portion of the sky. As you can see, however, the image above is incredibly sharp, even at the maximum zoom. Below you can see how much I cropped to get the shot above.
