Now that South African Communist Party general secretary Blade Nzimande warned in his address to the Congress of South African Trade Unions on Tuesday that Hitler, too, favoured nationalisation, I think it’s time to haul out this old doodle of mine.

In August of 2010, after Julius Malema mouthed off one too many times about confiscating land, I published this little comic. I’ve decided to resurrect it, but without the now mostly irrelevant top half.

Maybe I should turn this fool in to a webcomic character. “Just Julius offers a broad range of opinions that are known for their inequality and ignorance.”

PS. Sorry Just Juice/Coka Cola for using your slogan. Parody, fair use, etc. (Also, fuck you for lying to people about VitaminWater.)

Edit:

The Mail and Guardian reports:

Nzimande said on Tuesday that nationalisation was an attempt by the ANCYL to save black economic empowerment “elements in crisis”, and would not help the poor.

“The call for nationalisation by elements within the ANCYL, whose intention is to save these BEE elements in crisis, and not to address the interests of the workers and the poor in the country,” he told Cosatu’s central committee at Gallagher Estate in Midrand.

“Nationalisation is not inherently progressive,” Nzimande said, “as it depends on whose class interests is it advancing“.

“Nationalisation has been undertaken by Hitler, just as it was undertaken by Fidel Castro. It is not the phrase that is critical, but the class content of such nationalisation,” added Nzimande.

And here’s the scary stuff:

However, Shivambu said this theory was “out of touch with reality” because the youth league had never suggested state resources would be used to buy mines.

Rather, the youth league favoured the use of “legislation” to take control of mines and mining activities.

Someone needs to shame these evil assholes so they never want to show their racist, self-serving faces in public again.

Clearly the recent ANCYL antics have not impressed the writers at Hayibo.com. A recent tweet announced, ‘Missing: one spine, formerly belonging to Jacob Zuma‘.

The link opened up a Mailchimp subscription page with some potent writing.

Da text:

So what does President Zuma call Julius Malema now that Juju has entrenched himself at the centre of South African politics? Comrade President, or just Baas?

Yes, dear readers, the chubby face that launched a thousand quips is here to stay, winning another term in office and putting himself firmly on track to become the first Brother Leader President Field-Marshall (with Iron Cross, 2nd class, standard grade) of the Democratic Peoples Kleptocracy of Sowth Afrika, some time around 2025.

They say empty vessels make the most noise. The ANC Youth League has proved them wrong: it turns out vessels full of spare-ribs and Blue Label make the most noise.

And as for that ash cloud grounding flights around the country: was it a Chilean volcano or just the first pages of the Constitution going up in flames? Watch this space.

But now, as Baas Julius bends Msholozi over his knee and spanks him for daring to make eye-contact, and the Young Lions storm the barricades of the nearest off-license, it’s time to break the news. Into lots of little pieces…

Them’s fighting words.

Edit: Zapiro is also not impressed.

Lyrics:

Voter’s Roll

the lights, they never go on in my town,
the water from the river’s far away,
the public toilets have no walls and when one politician falls,
a thousand more corrupt line up to take their place.

And the work is getting hard to find in my town,
if you get a job it’s never for much pay,
while grand children of the colonies and broad based BEE men drink champagne, we’re left out in the rain.

Where is the soul in the voter’s roll?
commute all day and pay a toll you’ve paid before.
Too many promises to keep, at least the money helps them sleep while the continent drifts slowly down the hole.

and the policemen all want pay-offs in my town,
everything they earn is less than what they owe.
The first lady of home security has been sentenced by a jury for running drugs beneath the president’s nose.

Where is the soul in the voter’s roll?
commute all day and pay a toll you’ve paid before.
Too many promises to keep, at least the money helps them sleep while the continent drifts slowly down the hole.

Another bite out of the weak
another cut a little deep
the workers bleed into the streets and let the waste rise for a week

Oh South Africa the land of dreams
Oh South Africa this land of dreams
Oh South Africa you must be dreaming
Oh South Africa, you are asleep.

As the ANC foolishly pushes harder and harder for control of and over the media (probably in fear of losing control of the country in future decades), citizens and the media alike are starting to make their protests visible.

On the 20th of September 2010, large swathes of the east of Pretoria saw the defacement of newspaper headlines in protest against the Media Tribunal and the Protection of Information bill.

Last week, The Sunday Independent used an almost identical format to protest against being gagged by the South African Police.

I’ve also been hearing reports of the Democratic Alliance taping the mouths of statues in protest against these same anti-democratic proposals by the ANC, but so far I haven’t been able to get there to take photos.

Well, I’m not really a man of too many words. (Okay, I can hear all my friends scoffing at that. But really…) I am however a man of many pictures, and right now I have a picture on my mind, a picture of the end of Democracy in South Africa.

Thanks to the ruling party who, in the name of protecting their own criminal interests, are looking to gag the press. (Just like the National Party did during Apartheid.)

To add further insult, they are trying to push for legislation to censor our internet. Like a friend of mine recently commented:

“Has anyone seem the new Internet laws proposed? Under the guise of blocking child porn – but if you read the fine print government will be able to block any website it considers harmful. Sounds a lot like we are going China’s route of Internet freedom.”

This satirical parody, which I hope won’t end up with some ANC asshole confiscating my server or sending security thugs to my front door, is dedicated to Jacob Zuma, who, in a blinding flash of stupidity declined to stay above the fray, and clearly stated his support for this fascist-like censorship.

Currently freedom of the press, and by extension freedom of speech and the Constitution of South Africa, is under direct, serious and sustained attack from the ANC Youth League. (And, implicated by their lack of action, the ANC itself.) We, a group of black, white and coloured bloggers from all over South Africa are standing together as one and raising our voice against these abuses.

I urge all South African bloggers to also take up the call and post this to your own blogs.

This is what we have to say:

Last week, shocking revelations concerning the activities of the ANC Youth League spokesperson Nyiko Floyd Shivambu came to the fore. According to a letter published in various news outlets, a complaint was laid by 19 political journalists with the Secretary General of the ANC, against Shivambu. This complaint letter detailed attempts by Shivambu to leak a dossier to certain journalists, purporting to expose the money laundering practices of Dumisani Lubisi, a journalist at the City Press. The letter also detailed the intimidation that followed when these journalists refused to publish these revelations.

We condemn in the strongest possible terms the reprisals against journalists by Shivambu. His actions constitute a blatant attack on media freedom and a grave infringement on Constitutional rights. It is a disturbing step towards dictatorial rule in South Africa. We call on the ANC and the ANC Youth League to distance themselves from the actions of Shivambu. The media have, time and again, been a vital democratic safeguard by exposing the actions of individuals who have abused their positions of power for personal and political gain.

The press have played a vital role in the liberation struggle, operating under difficult and often dangerous conditions to document some of the most crucial moments in the struggle against apartheid. It is therefore distressing to note that certain people within the ruling party are willing to maliciously target journalists by invading their privacy and threatening their colleagues in a bid to silence them in their legitimate work.

We also note the breathtaking hubris displayed by Shivambu and the ANC Youth League President Julius Malema in their response to the letter of complaint. Shivambu and Malema clearly have no respect for the media and the rights afforded to the media by the Constitution of South Africa. Such a response serves only to reinforce the position that the motive for leaking the so-called dossier was not a legitimate concern, but a insolent effort to intimidate and bully a journalist who had exposed embarrassing information about the Youth League President.

We urge the ANC as a whole to reaffirm its commitment to media freedom and other Constitutional rights we enjoy as a country.

Our Dearest Minister of Arts, Culture and Bigotry, Lulu Xingwana has finally been getting some deserved flack for her little freak out last year. The photo above, by artist Zanele Muholi, managed to switch our country bumpkin of a minister minister over into homophobe mode. Her last, lame defence is that it is inappropriate to display images like this at an exhibition where children are present.

I’d let any child view the image above. There’s nothing sexual about it. Sensual, maybe, but also gentle and loving, the way two sisters might be when they comfort each other at night.

Dear Minister, you might not be able to stop yourself from seeing tits and sex in every naked body, but please don’t assume that our children share this affliction.

I was itching to do some creative time-wasting, so I figured that while I’m at it I’m going to do my little bit for South Africa, or at least what I believe to be in South Africa’s interest. So, why not pick on the biggest bully on the playground? Yes, that’s right, this time it’s the ANC who’s in my little dog box. (Oh yeah, you’re gonna get it now you bullies. My 3 readers and I are going to take you down!)

I’ve been keeping an eye on the rivers of money haemorrhaging out of the government coffers for idiotic reasons for some time now. What I saw inspired me to create this very simple infographic.

I hope y’all like it. Let me know what you think.

The version above is teensy, so please click here for the PDF or here for a higher resolution JPEG.

Edit: (9/11/2009) Thanks to Randy for linking here. Since creating this graphic the spend on luxury cars has increased by a few more millions. I’ve unfortunately been too busy to update. I’ll try get round to it. To get a good idea of how our government is wasting money while millions of poor people starve, get sick and live with unimaginable violence have a look at the Wasteful Expenditure Monitor – an initiative of the Democratic Alliance, one of our opposition parties. The total listed on the monitor currently exceeds R318 million, or enough to build more than 6000 houses which could house more than 24,000 people.
