What’s iWeek you say? Well, it’s where all the people who build and run the South African Internet (No shit!) come together and have their yearly conference, shindig and AGM.

This year is going to be especially interesting due to it being the 10 year anniversary of the conference, but first things first…

Because of this year being so special we decided to spice up the website a bit lot. Yours truly designed this baby, and I’m quite proud of it. It only went live yesterday, so there are still a few rough edges that I need to smooth out, but generally it’s been plain sailing.

Okay, so I believe in simplicity when it comes to websites. (Why wouldn’t I, it just makes sense, right?) So, when Retha Ferguson asked me to build her a website I worked closely with her to build something that suited her taste and matched her personality, but that also kept it simple and elegant so as not to distract from the beautiful visual works she creates.

Not too long ago I started doing some work for the people who’s job it is to keep ISPA running smoothly. My first order was to get a website going for iWeek, ISPA’s famous yearly conference. With less than a month to go before the website had to be live I had my work cut out.

I managed to whip this baby together in almost no time flat, with a registration section, various custom pages, some on the fly thumbnail generation, a mobile version and a few other bells and whistles under the hood. Apparently having a slightly jazzed-up site has done wonders for iWeek, with registrations coming in sooner and faster than in previous years.

Earlier this year I was contacted by and old ex-colleague of mine who now works for Xpedia, a sweet little IT company doing ERP, human resources, payroll and sms software as well as bespoke programming in and around Gauteng. (Okay okay, maybe they’re not that little.)

Xpedia wanted a complete re-design of their website which was, quite frankly, in need of one. After some initial discussions between myself and the Top Dogs at Xpedia they must have decided that they like me a lot because without even having to push (all that hard) they agreed to a corporate ID redesign – starting of course with the logo. (which was also in dire need of a redesign)

I got Leigh Hunter, an excellent designer by the way – check out her website, to get involved with the redesign of the logo. Leigh must be made of adamantium because boy were we demanding, but in the end we got a superb new logo and stationery for Xpedia. Thanks Leigh!

Once the stationery was out of the way we could start on designs for the website. I have to state truthfully and with much enthusiasm that working with Xpedia was great, even though they’re the craziest perfectionists ever. If they’re as friendly and on the ball with their clients as they are with me then their clients are lucky indeed.
